Wide-awake hand surgery

Many elective hand procedures performed at UCI Health can now be done under local anesthesia, which avoids the need for IV medications, fasting, preoperative testing, or even finding a ride. Using modern techniques, patients can safely and comfortably undergo elective hand surgery with local anesthesia including: carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release, mass excisions, tendon repairs, scar revisions and other procedures.

Dr. Jesse Kaplan is a board-certified UCI Health Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. Kaplan performs his wide-awake surgeries in an outpatient clinic setting, which improves accessibility for patients and providers.
