UCI Health has treated its first patient using MR-guided focused ultrasound, an incision-free, FDA-approved therapy for essential tremor and tremor-predominant Parkinson’s disease. The outpatient procedure uses MRI to precisely target and destroy the small area of brain tissue responsible for tremors, delivering immediate symptom relief without surgery or implants. The initial patient experienced a significant reduction in hand tremor following treatment, with a second session planned and additional patients already showing positive results.
