Key questions physicians should ask before adopting AI tools

As artificial intelligence tools become more integrated into clinical workflows, UCI Health Chief Medical Information Officer and Vice President of Clinical Informatics Deepti Pandita, MD, FACP, FAMIA urges physicians to critically evaluate AI products before adoption.

“Because AI tools directly impact patient care, safety and clinical decision-making, it’s important that physicians ask questions to ensure that the AI solution is clinically relevant, evidence-based, transparent, compliant and usable,” said Pandita.

She emphasizes the need for FDA approval, data transparency, privacy compliance, and cybersecurity clearance, as well as collaboration with data scientists to audit predictive inputs. A national leader in clinical informatics, Pandita continues to shape AI governance and digital transformation efforts that improve care quality and clinician well-being.
