This December, UCI Health will open the doors to UCI Health ? Irvine, the nation’s first all-electric acute care hospital, marking a major milestone in sustainable healthcare. The 144-bed facility, located adjacent to the tranquil San Joaquin Marsh, blends advanced medical technology with biophilic design elements that integrate nature to enhance healing and comfort. As the healthcare sector accounts for approximately 8.5% of all carbon emissions, UCI Health is taking a leadership role in environmental stewardship. “We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact across all facilities,” says Ryan Gibney, MD, emergency medicine physician and medical director of the new hospital’s emergency department. This innovative facility reflects the broader mission UCI Health has to deliver exceptional care while advancing sustainability in healthcare.
