UC Irvine Health endocrinologists deliver highly specialized, targeted and comprehensive consultation and treatment for patients who have a broad spectrum of conditions affecting the endocrine system, including diabetes, thyroid, pituitary disorders as well as lipid disorders and metabolic bone disease.

UCI Health was recognized as a 2023-2024 Top 50 hospital for Diabetes and Endocrinology by U.S. News & World Report. In addition, we offer the most advanced care for diabetic patients at the UC Irvine Health Diabetes Center, the only comprehensive academic treatment facility for diabetes in Orange County.

Our faculty’s dedication to scientific knowledge and discovery provides our patients access to cutting-edge innovative research that will advance the field of endocrine and diabetes care and improve the lives of our patients.

News and Highlights

UCI Health names internationally recognized leading Endocrinologist and Diabetes Researcher to lead and expand its Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Division - Dr. Mehboob A. Hussain is a board-certified UCI Health endocrinologist. He earned his medical degree and clinical training at the University of Zurich Faculty of Medicine in Switzerland. In the U.S., he completed a residency in internal medicine at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in Europe and in the United States. Before arriving at UCI Health, Hussain has held faculty positions at Harvard University, New York University, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Michigan. He is a leading researcher in Diabetes Mellitus with a focus on the Biology of the Islets of Langerhans. His research has been continually supported by the National Institutes of Health.

UCI launches innovative initiative to address diabetes in the Latinx community - The diabetes initiative is designed to enhance healthcare delivery, expand access to quality treatment, and foster a culture of preventive care.

UCI Diabetes Center Symposium promotes interdisciplinary collaborations - More than 100 investigators from multiple disciplines participated in the 2023 UCI Diabetes Center Symposium.

NIH awards to UCI Diabetes Center - NIH awards $4.4 million to UCI Diabetes Center to study the epigenetic mechanisms for diabetes.
