Multispecialty surgical team saves patient’s arm after train accident

 

A multidisciplinary team of surgeons at UCI Health — Orange successfully reattached the severed arm of 24-year-old Ventura resident Elieah Boyd following a traumatic train accident. The 10-hour procedure involved trauma, vascular, orthopedic, and plastic surgery specialists, including Eric Wang, MD, Siwei Dong, DO, Tyler Johnston, MD, and trauma chief Michael Lekawa, MD.

As Orange County’s only Level 1 trauma center, UCI Health provides the region’s most advanced care for life-threatening injuries. This case highlights the critical role of coordinated, expert trauma care in achieving extraordinary outcomes.
