UCI Health has appointed Gary E. Deng, MD, PhD, a nationally recognized leader in integrative oncology, to direct its new Integrative Oncology Program at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Partnering with the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, Deng aims to enhance cancer care by integrating evidence-based therapies—such as acupuncture, nutrition counseling, and mindfulness—into standard treatment plans. His approach emphasizes whole-person care, focusing on improving patients’ physical, mental, and spiritual well-being throughout their cancer journey. With plans to launch an integrative oncology fellowship and expand clinical research, Deng has grand plans to improve cancer care at UCI Health.
