Although the science and practice of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for feet and ankles has been around for decades, advances in tools, training, and technology have made it a more popular option for patients.
UCI Health orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Andrew R. Hsu is featured in the November issue of Orthopedics Today explaining why MIS can decrease complications involving wounds and soft tissue.
“Safety always comes first. In the modern era, we should not have to accept that wound complications and painful scars are an inevitable part of foot and ankle surgery,” says Hsu. “Once you reduce complications, you can start pushing the envelope in terms of how much decreased dissection, faster recovery, and better results we can achieve.”
