We are very excited to uh partner with both MS Society and the city of Irvine to raise awareness uh about MS in our uh city here in Irvine. I'm Michael Sai. I'm an Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology here at UC Irvine Health. MS is one of the leading causes of disability amongst young people. So it really affects people in the, in the prime of their life. Um And so it affects them, uh affects their jobs, affects their family planning, uh affects their relationships and in a very time period of their life where really most people don't expect to be sick. Um So because of that, MS really requires a lot of care, a lot of resources to help patients uh have a good quality of life. So what we do as practitioners is only part of the solution in terms of helping MS patients. So partnering with the city and with MS society is really important on many different levels. Part of that is uh improving care through research. Uh part of that is getting more resources for their patients. Uh whether it's care that they need at home, access to jobs, access to uh various accommodations at the workplace, um things like that. And so, um having a whole kind of uh approach to care is extremely important when coming to dealing with a complex disease like multiple sclerosis here at UC Irvine uh health, we really provide full person care for the MS patients. And so, in addition to providing the disease, modifying therapies, the treatments that have been developed over time, uh we provide uh other specialty services like neurological services. Uh Gynecological and obstetric services, physical therapy, psychiatric help. Uh Unfortunately, MS can affect all those things I just mentioned and having a center like the UC I MS Comprehensive Center, uh be able to provide all those services is really important for providing good care to the patients. In addition, our center being a center that is involved in research uh is really forward looking. And so we applied the latest techniques both in terms of monitoring our patients and their disease activity uh as well as novel treatments uh that are both uh developed at the bench side as well as in clinical trials. So this really helps to afford and improve clinical care for our patients as well.
