Chapters Transcript Video Robert E. Bristow, MD, MBA, chair of the UC Irvine Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology My name is Robert Bristow. I'm the chair of the department of Obstetrics and gynecology. I'm a gynecological oncologist by training, so I take care of women who have gynecologic cancer, things like ovarian cancer and cervical cancer. I arrived at UCI in 2010 and been chair of the department for the past 10 years. So I oversee the department of OBGYN, which includes about 40 faculty members, 28 residents, 16 fellows in various fellowship training programs, and about 100 clinical and administrative staff. We have a multidisciplinary service at the Wen Center that includes gynecologic oncology, neurogynecology, our minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons, and our complex family planning practitioners. So it's an enormous opportunity for us to serve a different population within Orange County and bring resources to that area that currently are not existing in that particular geographic region. The department takes great efforts to support the continuing professional development of our faculty as well as our administrative and clinical staff to keep our department. On the cutting edge of delivering excellent clinical care as well as performing relevant and meaningful research, we invest heavily in our faculty as well as our uh trainees for continuing professional development through advanced degree programs such as the masters in patient safety and quality improvement, a master's in business administration. Continuing medical education programs for surgical procedures or research techniques, the department also has internally within itself uh research infrastructure with administrative oversight and biostatisticians to be able to provide more accessible resources to both our faculty staff and trainees to be able to continue to perform cutting edge research.
