So my talk today really centered around how we got where we are today, you know, how we've done new replacements for about 40 years really, and what has allowed us to sort of change to um what we call personalized alignment philosophies or alternative alignment philosophies. There's a lot of different names for it. With the improvement of technology, improvement of implants, and better understanding of how the knee functions, a lot of surgeons, you know, myself included, have gone towards a, you know, have kind of gotten license to start doing knee replacements a little bit differently, and I think, you know. The, the future is bright for us. I think the technology that we have now is very enabling not only for improving our surgeries but also in understanding how we should be doing these surgeries that really enables some of the research that needs to be done. I'm I'm Steven Yang. I'm an orthopedic surgeon. I'm faculty here at. Irvine, um, I'm a hip and knee replacement surgeon, hip and knee arthroplasty surgeon. Towards the end of the talk, I talked about robotics, which I think it's a, it's a new journey that we're embarking on here at UCI. It's something that's been happening in the joint replacement world, and I think that robotics in particular is helping us unlock sort of the. The mysteries of the knee, the things that we didn't know before and um I think that that'll make a big difference for our patients and for for patients in you know in the future as well. This is our annual orthopedic symposium where you know it's in celebration of our graduating uh chief residences and we also have um sort of a symposium on a broad. Range of orthopedic topics and this year we have a more more of a focus on degenerative disease and we have a number of guest speakers uh centered around hip and knee replacement. Our guest speaker this year is Doctor Jay Parvizi who's really a world renowned expert in orthopedics and specifically in orthopedic infections. He's a. Um, you know, like myself, a hip and knee replacement surgeon, uh, he's done a tremendous amount of, um, of work. He's pioneered a lot of work on infection and, and, you know, BTE and other things, um, it's really an honor to have him. He's a very engaging and relatable speaker and you know he's, you know, he spent a couple of days with us, which has been a real treat.
