The incidence of breast cancer among Asian women in the United States is increasing. I'm Irene Tai and I'm the division chief for breast imaging at UC Irvine. Today we held the 2023 inaugural UC I Asian American women's health symposium. And what we did today was gather Asian American physicians from across UC I health to discuss the importance of preventative breast health screening and preventative women's health screening. As it relates specifically to the Asian American breast cancer also occurs in Asian women at younger ages. So the peak incidence of breast cancer amongst Asian women is actually ages of 45 to 49 compared to 71 and older in other ethnicities. Asian women are also prone to more aggressive types of breast cancer and Asian women also have denser breast issue. So really there are so many culturally specific risk that we share that we have as a community, as the Asian community. And this is something that we wanted to share with the public to raise awareness of our culturally specific risks and what we can do to mitigate that. And in the future, I hope that targeted interventions such as investing in research, specifically targeted to the Asian population, to the Asian American population. We could overall improve the health and well being of our community and to help mitigate our risk in terms of understanding this culturally sensitive and relevant um risk factor.
