Edward Nelson, MD is a board-certified UCI Health hematologist and oncologist who formerly served as Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine at UCI School of Medicine. He also holds a faculty position as a professor in the Department of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry at UCI School of Biological Sciences. Nelson provides specialized care in blood disorders, hematology oncology, and medical oncology, with clinical services at the Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic and UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Nelson earned his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester, followed by fellowships in oncology and pediatric immunology at Stanford University. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine.
Nelson is widely recognized for his expertise in cancer care, having been named to America's Top Doctors for gastrointestinal cancer and lymphoma by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. He has also been consistently honored by the Orange County Medical Association as one of the Physicians of Excellence from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2014 to 2023. Additionally, he was recognized as a Southern California Super Doctor in 2008 and was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2010.
